Officials said 566 Gila trout were fished out of Diamond Creek in southwestern New Mexico, put in containers on mules and horses, loaded onto trucks and brought to the Mescalero Fish Hatchery.
"This is an important day," said Wendel Chino, chairman of the Mescalero Apache Tribe in New Mexico, who said past treaties deserve the same consideration as the U.S. Constitution or the Bill of Rights.
