Saudi Arabia deported 400 Nigerians, putting them on a flight to Kano in northern Nigeria, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
Traditionally, the Kano sultan is the spiritual leader of Nigeria's 50 million Moslems and is revered by Moslems in neighboring countries.
The ancient city wall of Kano, once 15 metres high, can now be stepped over and the walls of Zaria and Benin are also threatened.
Kano, who was in a position to supervise the employment information industry between 1982-85, was wined and dined by Recruit at least 41 times, and received various gifts including golf sets and wristwatches, prosecutors said.
Kato's arrest had been widely anticipated since prosecutors last month arrested Shigeru Kano, a junior officer to Kato, on bribery charges.
Banks in Kano, Makurdi, Calabar and Ibadan also were affected.
