Oil Ministry spokesman Egil Helle said the 40 percent increase over the May 1988 production level irritated some members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, which hopes to stabilize prices by limiting supplies.
Crafts, a 50-year-old pilot for Eastern Airlines and part-time police officer, was arrested in January 1987 and charged with the murder of his Danish-born wife, Helle.
"We have had many questions from outside Norway in connection with the meeting and our attitude toward a stable oil market," Helle said, explaining the reason for his announcement.
Crafts was accused of killing his Danish-born wife, Helle, in their bedroom, cutting up the body with a chainsaw and feeding parts through a rented wood chipping machine.
