Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus; cautious; dilatory;
avoiding a decisive contest.

{Fabian policy}, a policy like that of Fabius Maximus, who,
by carefully avoiding decisive contests, foiled Hannibal,
harassing his army by marches, countermarches, and
ambuscades; a policy of delays and cautions.
