Abstract: The connection between porosity gas pressure in coal seam and top coal caving characteristics of steep seam is analyzed by fluid mechanics on coal and rock.The porosity gas pressure can reduce the strength and elastic modulus of coal.Making use of the coal fracture model gas pressure forms,it will be found that the fracture in the form of layers of top coal happen with certain gas pressure,thus the top coal caving characteristics can obviously be improved.
